My condolences to the family of my best Friend of nearly 25 years. Jim made me feel as a part of his family as one could. Jim served by my side, as he did with many others as a member of the Stecoah Rescue Squad and Fire Department. Jim enjoyed helping people and he enjoyed their company.
I found Jim to be outspoken, but reserved in many ways. He had worked in Law Enforcement with Nashville Metro Police and was the first Chief of Police with the City of Ashland, Tn; helping to organize their first Department.
Having been in Law Enforcement Jim and I would often talk of some of the funny things we had experienced and seen, even telling these stories to others. However, as I didn't speak often of the horrific ordeals I had witnessed and experienced to anyone, neither did Jim. Some how from time to time we found solace in each other, having known the other could relate to what we both had experienced in our careers.
With this we might share a feeling or a thought that we could not speak of to anyone about as they had no idea of what the Police, Firemen or EMT's often go through and witness. While these are things we didn't speak of often. We knew what the other would be thinking, and could talk to the other should we need to do so we could.
As I had kept many things from my family and friends, so had Jim. He had done as I had and shielded his family from these bad things in which no one should have seen or even talked about around them.
To his last days Jim took these events and to his grave, keeping them to himself, to protect the ones he loved, his family and friends.
Jim and his wife Gail found piece in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Jim settled his family with most never knowing why. They lived in the Stecoah, Almond area.
Jim was so in love with his wife Linda Gail, he couldn't stand to leave her for any length of time. Yet the time he did leave her was to help others. To answer and respond to Fire calls and Rescue Squad responses. Jim, very much enjoyed helping others.
I miss my friend, I miss my best friend... So, I know you miss your Dad. Remember this, Jim is with his love, his wife and your Mother. Jim can rest with her now and watch as others have taken his place helping others.
Jim, my friend and your father will be missed by many. Some who had only met Jim. Others who will never meet Jim. There are those that did know him and will miss Jim as well. Jim has finished helping those he could.
You children can honor Jim by helping those you can.
Jim, my friend; GOD blessed us in allowing us to have known you. And one day we will know you again.
My Condolences as I said at the beginning. Remember my friendship continues and extends to my friends family. You all have became a part of my family as well.
God Bless you all. God blessed us all with your father and my friend.
Sincerely and forever your friend.
