Obituary of Hazel Davis Blanton

Hazel Davis Blanton, 92, of Whittier, passed away on Saturday March 18, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Erastus and Lillie (Revis) Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Buford Blanton; sister Toleda Childers; and brothers Haven, Clayton, Otis, and Coolidge Davis. Mrs. Blanton is survived by her daughters Rhonda (Tommy) Brooks and Sandra (Roger) Arvey; grandchildren Thom Brooks, Melody Bowers (Scottie), and Michelle Arvey; great-grandchildren Seth, Isaac, Aubrey, and Kendall; and brother Perry Davis. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A native and lifelong resident of Whitter, Hazel enjoyed attending church services and was the oldest member of Whittier Missionary Baptist Church, having joined in 1936. She also enjoyed traveling having visited places like New Orleans, Miami, and Niagra Falls -- but her favorite place was Myrtle Beach where she and Buford vacationed regularly. Hazel loved shopping and dining out, and she was always ready to go somewhere and eat a good meal or find a bargain. She and Buford loved gardening and would raise large vegetable gardens to share with friends and family. Hazel loved being outdoors, whether it was picking wildflowers, gathering unusual stones, admiring a beautiful sky or just walking around and enjoying her yard. Hazel and Buford renovated and built numerous houses over their lifetime, and she took particular pride in designing them and being a carpenter's helper. Family members still enjoy homes they created. But it was spending time with her family that brought her the most joy; she dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Hazel was a humble and kind woman who loved to laugh, had a smile for everyone she met, and never spoke an unkind word about anyone. She will be forever loved and missed by her family. The family will hold a private memorial service at a future date.
