Obituary of Dessie Mae Parton

Dessie Parton, 83, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord with her family by her side Saturday, March 4, 2017. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Troy and Maude Hamrick Allen and wife of the late Harrie Parton. She was a member of Sawmill Hill Freewill Baptist Church. Dessie was a dedicated nurse at Swain County Hospital and Cherokee Indian Hospital.
She is survived by six children, Roy Parton and wife Carrie, Wayne Parton and wife Paula, Leonard Parton and wife Vicki, Teresa Hasenauer and husband Tim, Carolyn Posey and husband Jackson, Gene Richmond and wife Angie; 23 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; three sisters, Gertrude Williams, Helen Hall, and Mary Holder; and one brother, Clyde Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at Sawmill Hill Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Gerald McGaha will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Crisp Funeral Home where Dessie will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
