Obituary of Joseph Harry Hancock
Bryson City Dateline:
Joseph H. Hancock, 89, of the Silvermine Community went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 9th, 2012 in a Buncombe County Hospital. A native of McDowell County, NC he had lived in Swain County since 1970. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Little Rock Church on Silvermine. He was an employee for over 20 years for Kennedy Oil Company in High Point, NC. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Clara Mashburn Hancock; four children, Gary Hancock of Bryson City, Teresa Hancock of Bryson City, Tony Hancock and wife Linda of Winston-Salem, and Christy Birchfield and husband Lynn of Bryson City; six grandchildren, Adam Hancock and wife Jacqui of Grand Blanc, Michigan, Jonathon Hancock and wife Kim of Canton, Steven Hancock of Winston-Salem, NC, Amber Birchfield of Bryson City, Megan Hancock of Winston-Salem, and Constance Birchfield of Bryson City, and one great grandchild, Rebekah Birchfield.
Funeral will be held 2:00 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Black Mountain V.A. Cemetery at 12:00 Noon on Monday.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Saturday at the Funeral Home.
