Obituary of Robert James Ebert

Robert James Ebert passed away Thursday, September 15, after a brief illness. He is survived by his beloved partner Ann, Children Ben (Louise), Linda, Tammy (David), and Suzie (Garrett), Ann's children Kathleen, Steven, Beth (Mike), 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many friends. Bob was born March 10, 1936, in Flint Michigan and at age 17 joined the U.S. Army. He served nearly 10 years in the Engineer Corp with tours in Korea, Okinawa, and Germany.
He was preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 47 years Venita, his parents and a sister Shirly.
Bob was fiercely patriotic. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, served four years as Commander of Bryson City Post 1981, and participated in its many functions, including the Honor Guard.
He and Ann were active members of the Bryson City United Methodist Church and Big Brothers and Big Sisters. He enjoyed their many trips in recent years to Europe, New England, Colorado, Florida, and three months in Alaska.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday October 8, 2016 at the Bryson City United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday October 8, 2016 at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has designated memorial to the Bryson City United Methodist Church at PO Box 817, Bryson City, NC 28713; Multiple Sclerosis 950 East Paces Ferry Rd. NE #110, Atlanta, GA 30326; or The Rathbun House at 121 Sherwood, Asheville, NC.
