Obituary of Debora Jewell Freeman Lindsay

Debora Lindsay of Euchella, beloved friend, devoted and inspiring teacher, and loving daughter passed away on February 5th 2024. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, J.C. Freeman and Edith Freeman and younger brother Ed Freeman as well as several of her “Kids” (students) whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her Aunt Betty Lou Wright and brother Jim Freeman of Almond. Also surviving are her cherished sisters-in-laws, Peggy Curtis of Murphy and Mary Styles (Gill Crouch) of Wesser Creek, two nieces, one great-nephew and one great-great nephew. Debora had an exceptional friend, Gale Conyers of Lansing, MI, to whom she was eternally grateful and a very special caregiver Ann Ball of Bryson City. She is also survived by lots of “kids” (students) who were very special to her. She also had some very special people help her through a particularly difficult period in her life: Peggy Curtis, Paula Bishop and Shelia Engleman. True and loyal friends Arlene and Fred Cochran, Glen (Doc) Tolley and Arvin Jenkins, were especially kind to her. Debora has requested that there be no services to be held in remembrance. Anyone wishing to donate in her honor may do so to the Swain County Schools, Southwestern Community College or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.
