Gary Vervon York, 79, of the Alarka community went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 23, 2023.
A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Virgie York.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie York and his son, James Norman York.
Gary was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
He is survived by his son, Michael York (Jennifer); grandchildren, Daniel York, Madison Leatherwood (Caleb); great grandson, Awohali Leatherwood; step-sisters, Debbie Matthews, Becky Cochran (Lonnie); and step-brother, Randy Cunningham (Sandy).
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Wednesday at Harmony Baptist Church. Revs. Tony Cochran, Lowell York, and Tim Barker will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm Wednesday at the church.
The family requests no flowers be sent. Instead, please make donations to Toys For Tots. Toysfortots.org
