Lorraine York Keepfer of the Alarka Community passed away on November 18, 2023. She was 91 years old. Lorraine was preceded in death by husband Kenneth Keepfer, husband Leslie York, son Larry York, granddaughter Lisa York Torres, parents Avery and Dora Edwards Bowers; siblings Dixie, Edith, Martha, Troy, Richard, Avery, and Benny Bowers. After many years of employment as a cook, Lorraine retired from the Swain County Hospital Dietary Department. She loved to bake and enjoyed baking Birthday Cakes for all of her nieces and nephews of whom she had lovingly received the nickname “NeNe”. If Lorraine wasn’t working, she could be found tending to her beautiful flowers, selling at the flea market, or delivering Avon. She is survived by, her son Lowell York and his wife Tina, brother Sam ( Brenda) Bowers; grandchildren Jeff (Niki) York, Andrew (Becky) York, Amanda York, and 8 great grandchildren whom she adored. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Austin Frady will officiate with burial at Swain Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am Tuesday at the funeral home.
