Obituary of Wanda McMahan

Please share a memory of Wanda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wanda McMahan, 93, left this earth after a long, well-lived life. She considered herself a simple woman who loved God, family, and flowers. She possessed many virtues and would probably prefer we not extol them here, but we (her family) are choosing to celebrate her goodness. Wanda – also known as Mom, Momma, Grandma, and Grandma-Mama – had a great sense of humor and you couldn’t help but join her when she laughed. She was practical, kind, and caring. She made a habit of letting people know that both she and God cared for them. She loved her mountain home and enjoyed spending time outdoors tending her flowers. Wanda leaves behind her doting husband Walt; daughters Lynda Bunch and Glenda “Dee Dee” Nelson (Ron); grandchildren Staci Barfield, Dr. Shari Barfield (Curtis Newman), and Jason Hudson (Jocelyn); and great-grandchildren Jay Garcia-Barfield and Alexandra Garcia-Barfield. Wanda was born to Harry McKittrick and Dolly Marshall in Kansas, spent much of her life in Lugoff, SC, and then moved to Bryson City, NC to live out her days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Russell Hayden Coffman. The celebration of Wanda’s life will be held at Galbreath Creek Missionary Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 2 at 11am, followed by interment at Swain Memorial Park. Crisp Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Galbreath Creek Missionary Baptist Church in her memory.
