Obituary of Dessie Mae McGugan

Dessie Barker McGugan, 90, of Bryson City, went home on Angels Wings to be with the Lord on November 1, 2014. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Pierce and Martha Barker. She was preceded in death by her husband James; son Roy McGugan; three brothers and five sisters.
Dessie is survived by four daughters, Shirley (Doyle) Loftis of Bryson City, Marcella "Marcie" Webb of Brewton, AL, Barbara (Don) Lambert of Cherokee, NC and Ellen McGaha of Bryson City; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and friends that she loved dearly.
She worked in the Swain County School System Cafeterias for 33 years where she touched the lives of numerous people. She was a charter member of the Alarka Church of God and was a true prayer warrior. She devoted her life to God, her family, and her community. She was a generous spirit who loved to give and do for others.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Brothers Jim Frady, Marty Pressley, Benji Collins, and Eugene Moore will officiate with burial in Mason Branch Cemetery in the Alarka community.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alarka Church of God, or to St. Jude Children Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
