Dennis and Brenda Harrington posted a condolence
Friday, November 15, 2013
Dear Peggy and family,
Brenda and I have you in hour thoughts and prayers at the loss of Russell. Peggy, I cannot tell you how much I cared for and thought of your husband. What a public health director, friend, and trooper that I could send into health departments that were in need of a strong, capable, yet compassionate leader! We will never forget our summer vacation in Bryson City and the time that we spent with you and Russell. No matter how crazy things go in public health Russ and I could always find something to laugh about! I am grieved that I did not get up to see you folks before he left us, but I know Russell would have not wanted to be inside, let alone sick in the bed, when he could go to a far better place and await (for just a few days- we don't really know what heaven time is like) the loved ones he leaves behind. Love and Prayers to all,
Dennis and Brenda Harrington, Raleigh, NC

Peggy, I am so sorry to hear of Russell's passing. Although I haven't seen you in years, I did pass Russell frequently on the golf course during the years I lived with Dad before his passing. Russell had a great smile, laugh, and good spirit and was dedicated to adding value to the community. He will be greatly missed but believing that he has simply moved to a new home in an even better place brings great comfort. May God help you and your family in your grief as we all mourn our loss.

Dear Peggy and Family,
Margie and I were shocked to learn that Russell had suddenly left us. We had not known of any illness. He was always so tall, strong and most handsome.
He made a huge contribution to Swain County and was totally dedicated to
his management of the Health Department. We miss him there as well as in
the other areas of community involvement. May the Lord sustain you and
yours in your sorrow and loss. Respectfully, Earl & Margie Douthhit

You have my deepest condolences for your loss. I had the fortune of knowing him only briefly, but that short time was a true pleasure. Mr. Childers gave me the opportunity to work in public health at the next level of my career. I am forever grateful for his trust and support. He was truly a wonderful person and the world is a lesser place with his absence.
He will be missed.

Dear Peggy and family:
So sorry to hear about Russell. Had the privilege of working with him when he was Health Director. He sat on the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council for a year or two. And he was one of our own boys from Whittier. Remembering you and your family during this sad time.

TO THE CHILDERS FAMILY.
Brenda and I are praying for you in the Home-going of your husband and dad, Brother Russell. He was a good, steady and quality man. Our son, Jon, spoke highly of him when we would ask about his condition. Thank you and the family for your friendship with our son and Mandy and kids. They love you all so much. We all will see Bro. Russell again, and maybe very soon. "There ain't no grave, gonna hold his body down." (I Thess. 15:51-57)
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Peggy this is twice in less than six months that two people I went through 12 years of school with has passed away. I remember you and Russell both just like it was yesterday. I don't even want to imagine what you are going through but I am a believer in Jesus Christ and I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that God makes no mistakes and while we don't understand why Russell was taken so very young we do know that it is part of God's perfect plan. This does not make you feel better but Russell has had the pleasure we all look forward to someday and that is to come face to face with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You have my deepest sympathy and will remain in our thoughts and prayers. God bless you and your family. I am sending this from my home in Las Vegas, NV.
