Obituary of Joel Ray Gass
Whittier Dateline:
Joel Ray Gass, 61, of the Union Hill Community, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 10th, 2013 at his residence. A native of Jackson County he was the son of James (Harvey) Gass of Whittier and the late Dorothy Fortner Gass. He was a member and Deacon of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was employed as a carpenter, and worked in the maintenance Department for Swain County for the past 11 years.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Brenda (Bimbo) Gass; one daughter Angie Gass Roberson and husband Mark of Whittier; two grandchildren, Emily and Lane Roberson; four brothers, Leslie Gass of Whittier, Jimmy Gass of Whittier, Steve Gass of Inman SC, and Rick Gass of Whittier, and two sisters, Rhonda Gass of Whittier and Marilyn (Cookie) Plemmons of Bryson City.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Randall Watkins and Terry Taylor will officiate with burial in the Thomas Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
