Obituary of Juanita Johnston

Juanita Johnston, retired Southern Baptist Missionary to Thailand and Taiwan was born March 14, 1926 and died March 6, 2013 in a nursing home in Bryson City.
She received the Bachelor of Arts degree from Livingston University of Alabama, and Master of Religious Education degree from New Orleans, LA Baptist Theological Seminary.
In 1956, she was appointed by the International Mission Board to serve in Thailand. There, she instituted and directed a kindergarten and assisted in a chapel for Thai Nationals. She served as missionary advisor for Chonburi Baptist Church and held Bible classes.
In 1978 she was transferred as dorm supervisor and kindergarten teacher to Morrison Academy in Taichung, Taiwan. After 36 years of service, she retired in October, 1992.
Juanita is survived by a sister, Elois J. Clegg of Whittier, and eight nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lottie Moon Christmas offering through the First Baptist Church of Sylva, or to the United Christians Ministries of Jackson County.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Bryson City. Rev. David Watkins will officiate with burial in the Sawyer Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.
