I grew up with Pedab, even though we went to different elementary schools. We played T-ball, minor league, and little league, plus all-star teams. I knew from the moment I met him he was my friend. When he would flip up his eyelids to freak out the other pitcher out, I knew we were one in the same. This is a tragedy and I will never forget him.

First off, I wish to send my condolences to Pedab’s mother and immediate family, Kent and Lynne, Nancy and kids, and his many other friends and family.
My heart is broken to see such a great guy go. Pedab was a few years older than I. I spent many long summers in North Carolina and had the privilege of befriending Pedab and his family. I got to work on the farm with Pedab and some of his cousins. Times I remember fondly. Pedab was always in such a positive mood, no matter the situation. His personality was bigger than life and it was apparent why so many were attracted to him and loved him so. He had a big infectious smile for everyone he met. I swear Pedab never met a stranger in his life. He was so warming and jovial toward everyone I’d ever seen him encounter.
As I mentioned, I use to spend time in North Carolina every summer for a long time. You can say I grew up around Pedab and admired him so. He was certainly someone I looked up to, and to me, was the ideal mountain man.
I saw how much he meant to his family. He was an important part of the Woodard/ Cochran family. It’s apparent that he had touched a lot of lives in such a positive way. He will be sorely missed.
God speed old friend. You will never be forgotten.

I truly have no word to express the loss, what a friend this boy/man was to me in high school. I am heart sick for his family and friends. I sat next to this aggravating sole for 3 years in multiple classes, mostly drafting, in high school. When I got sent to the office in drafting (I plead the 5th ;)) I do believe he doubled over in laughter. I came home with stories about this boy, so much that when I told my parents this week he had passed, they knew who he was. He was a good friend, a good sole, and now an angel. I know in his short lifetime, there will be soooo many with these stories, and may they flood the thoughts of everyone. He was just truly a good person and a good friend to me, and I will always remember him fondly.

Some of my earliest memories as a child included Pedab. I grew up on the campground where Kent and Lynne lived and would often spend time around Pedab, who was like a son to them, so naturally, he was usually around.
Pedab always had a special place in my heart. He had a way of making me feel special as a kid and would always give me time and attention when he was around. Anytime I saw him he’d pick me up and would give me a big ole hug and throw me on his shoulders. I couldn’t have been but 4 years old when I remember him carrying me and putting me in his truck with my blanket after I fell asleep watching everyone play volleyball at the campground. I also remember going to watch him play ball, It was something I could tell he loved and enjoyed doing.
A few years later, he and Nan had Drew (who was and still is as stubborn as her daddy) and I will never forget how proud he was to be a father. And then again when Zack was born and he got his little fishin buddy. His kids were his pride and joy.
I was grateful to have been included in family outings with him, Nan, Drew and Zack as I got older. Unfortunately, We never made it to that Georgia game like we had talked about years and years ago. But they all always felt like family to me, and they still are. No matter how much time passes or things change, it will always remain that way. I’m so appreciative for all that he did for me and love how he still made me feel like family anytime I saw him. I’m grateful for the many memories I have of and with him and will never forget him or that smile and laugh. I’m just heartbroken.
I send my love and prayers to all of the family, I know how close you all are and how huge of a loss this is for all of you and for the rest of us who know him. I can’t imagine not seeing him around anymore or not hearing his voice again. Things will truly never be the same but I am so grateful to know how happy he was before he went to Heaven. He will be truly missed as much as he is loved.
I love you Drew, Zack, Nan, Kent and Lynne.
Megan, I am so very sorry for your loss.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do.
Love Mandy

I will forever remember having Dewayne in class when I did my student teaching at Swain High. He was a charmer with a sense of humor that exceeded the size of his lanky teenage frame. When I insisted on calling him by his given name he laughed and told his classmates to not get "any smart ideas"! We became friends during my time with his class and over the years had a sweet reunion every time we ran into each other. I can only imagine how much those truly close to him will miss his larger than life personality. His were a smile that could light a room and a laugh that could warm even the coldest heart. My prayers are with his wife, children and other family members. I know there is a hole in your life now; may you fill it with wonderful memories of Dewayne and his crazy antics.
