Edward Lee Estes (Eddie), 64, of Whittier, NC, passed away on November 1, 2021 at Mission Hospital. Crisp Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements. Visitation will be held at Crisp Funeral Home on Friday, November 5th from 1-2 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Crisp Funeral Home on Friday, November 5th from 2-3 p.m. Eddie was born to Sylvia and JD Estes of Whittier, NC on January 9, 1957. He went to Swain County high school. He worked for a number of years and ultimately went on to earn a degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from Southwestern Community college. He graduated with honors in May 1993. He worked 25+ years as a Medical Laboratory Technician, the most recent 18 years at Swain County Hospital. They referred to him as “steady Eddie” Eddie is survived by his wife of 38 years, Alicia Estes of Whittier, NC; his two children, Nicole Sherrill (Adam) of Bryson City, NC and Sam Estes of Whittier, NC. He is also survived by his brothers, Steve Estes (Deb) of Whittier and Thomas Estes of Asheville; his father (J.D. Estes (Diana); two grandchildren, Riley Faith Cabe and Brighan Otto Sherrill, both of Bryson City. He is also survived by nephews/nieces and great nephews/nieces too numerous to name. He loved them all. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Estes and brother Jay William (Bill) Estes. Eddie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was caring and supportive with an enthusiast love of Christmas, muscle cars (really all cars), and motorcycles – particularly his Harley-Davidson. He lived with a positive outlook and a laid-back attitude. He was a simple man, who would have done anything for those he loved. There are no words that can possibly express how much he will be missed.
