Obituary of Jerry D Howell
Please share a memory of Jerry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
U. S. Air Force Master Sergeant Jerry Doyle Howell, retired, went home to Heaven on Monday, July 26, 2021, after a battle with cancer. Jerry was born in Kannapolis, NC in 1948 to Claud Allen Howell and Jamie Sechler Howell. He was a graduate of A. L. Brown High School.
Jerry’s career with the Air Force began in 1970. He served in Vietnam, was stationed in numerous places around the world, and at his final assignment, served with the Joint Special Operations Command until 1990. His first job after retiring from the Air Force was with BK Dynamics, continuing to do the same job he did in the military, but as a civilian. In 1993, Jerry and his wife, Sandi retired to Bryson City, Sandi’s hometown. In the mountains, Jerry managed a motel and several gift shops in Cherokee for many years.
Although work defines a person in many ways, the things that stand out about Jerry are his faith in the Lord Jesus, his devotion to his wife and family, his love of country, his joy, and optimism. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He was an inspiration to many, especially during his time with cancer.
Jerry is preceded in death by one son, Chad Allen Howell; his parents; his wife of 52 years, Sandra Mae Wikle; and one sister, Charlene Sine.
Mr. Howell is survived by one sister, Betty Wilson & husband -Wayne of Kannapolis; a brother, Dewey Howell & wife - Cathey of Mill Spring; a brother, David Howell & wife- Penny of Concord. He is survived by one daughter, Karie Lanning & husband - Mark of Candler, one son, Benjamin Howell & wife - Krystal of Bryson City.
