Obituary of Gary Douglas Marcus

Gary Douglas Marcus, 61, Franklin, TN, native of Swain County transitioned to heaven Easter Sunday, April 4. He was a 1978 graduate of Swain High and a 1982 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His career was in Transportation and Logistics, having worked with Fredrickson, Old Dominion, Conway, Volunteer Express, and Overnight, and most recently MS Logistics. Wherever he worked, he was a dedicated, conscientious and valued employee with a strong work ethic. Gary was an avid NASCAR fan, hunter, fisherman, outdoor lover, voracious reader and devoted to family. Strong in his faith, he said, “Grew up in a Christ-centered family, brought up Baptist, became Presbyterian, and now Methodist.” He was preceded in death by his parents Kermit P and Mabel Jones Marcus. Surviving are sisters Jean (Earl) Thomas, Salisbury, Karen Marcus, Maggie Valley, brothers Kermit "Bud" (Linda) and Bill Marcus, Maryville, TN. Nieces Jennifer (Chris) Sloop, Carrie (Justin) Hall. Nephews Marc (Shannon) Thomas, Justin (Megan), Kelly (Emily) Marcus. 11 great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 10, 1:00 PM, at Panther Creek Cemetery, Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00. Rev. Nathan Irwin, 1st United Methodist Church, Maryville, TN will be officiating.
Memorial Donations may be made to Swain County Rescue Squad at 111 Bryson Walk, Bryson City, NC 28713.
Family Request face mask are required.
