Obituary of James Lannie DeHart

James Lannie DeHart, 69, of Bryson City Passed away on January, 22, 2021 at his home. Mr. DeHart was born in Swain County on May 3, 1951 to the late James Newell and Ruby Lee DeHart. James was of the Baptist Faith and served the Lord faithfully throughout his lifetime. He sang gospel music with the Wesser Creek Quartet and the Governor’s Island Quartet. He loved to play guitar as well as do wood crafting. He also had a love for gardening, raising chickens, and bee keeping. He worked very hard for his family and always said, “I love my family.”
James is survived by his wife of 40 years, Erin Vaudrin DeHart. In addition, he is survived by five children, Celina Guffey (Doug Chastain), James Joseph DeHart (Merissa), Kevin Christopher DeHart (Michelle), James Ryan DeHart, and Jared Monroe DeHart; one brother in law, Brian Vaudrin, who was also his best friend; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Vivian Ann Dills and Linda Carol Orr.
A Celebration of James’ Life will begin at 12:00pm in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home on Sunday, January 24, 2021 and conclude around 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 500, Chicago, IL 60611. Crisp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
