Obituary of DR. AMADEO BENJAMIN SAELI

Dr. Amadeo Benjamin (Ben) Saeli died in his home surrounded by his family and loved ones on September 13, 2009 at the age of 93. He succumbed following a short illness. Dr. Saeli graduated from the University of Notre Dame with the class of 1940. He graduated from the St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1943. He fulfilled his internship at the US Naval Hospital in St. Albans, NY and completed his residencies at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, Mercy Hospital in Toledo, OH, and the Tulane Graduate School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. He served in the US Navy in WWII and in the South Pacific during the Korean War. He was a member of numerous organizations including the AMA, CMA, LACMA, and the OCMA, the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Knights of Columbus, and remained an active Alumni of the University of Notre Dame. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Ollie Saeli; three sons, Philip of New Orleans, LA, Michael of Jackson, TN, Louis of Bryson City; one daughter, Martha of Sylva; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren. His passions in life were his wife, grandchildren, and Notre Dame Football. Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Father Ray Williams will officiate with burial in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
