Zell Cookston, 87, of Bryson City and former resident of Hildebran, NC went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 20, 2016. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Sam and Beulah Forrester Cookston. He was a US Navy Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Candler and Cromwell Cookston; sisters, Maggie Bell Slocum, Evelyn Swain and Tiny Smith; and his sons, Danny and Daryl Cookston.
He is survived by his son, Carson Cookston and wife Helen of Bryson City; daughter, Judy Shuler and husband Jerry of Bryson City; special buddy, Calvin "Coot" Autrey of Mountain View Manor; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. David Watkins will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
