Bryson City Dateline: William Thomas (Tommy) Hughes, 80, of the Bryson Branch Community, passed away Friday, October 30th, 2009 at his home. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Cash and Alice Franklin Hughes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was an avid Fisherman and Coon Hunter. He was survived by his wife of 53 years, Dixie Kirkland Hughes, one daughter, Deborah Hughes and granddaughter Summer Hughes both of the home, one sister Essie LeQuire and husband Vester LeQuire of Franklin, NC, and four brothers, Frank D. Hughes and wife Irene Hughes of Douglas, CA., Hubert Hughes and wife Ann Hughes of Aniston, Alabama, Lee Hughes and wife Mary Ruth Hughes of San Antonio, Texas, and James W. Hughes and wife Emily Hughes of Atlanta, Georgia. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Ray Ball will officiate with burial in the Lauada Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Monday at the Funeral Home.
