Taylor Kirkland, 84, of Bryson City, passed away Thursday January 25, 2018. He was born on Chambers Creek to the late Robert and Ida Watson Kirkland. In addition to his to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Mack, Bob, Benny and sisters, Dixie and Cora Lee. Taylor was a Gunnery Sergeant with the U.S Marine Corps, having served in Vietnam and the Korean Conflict. He is survived by two children, Wayne Kirkland and wife Lynn of Murphy, and Carolyn Kirkland of Bryson City; grandchildren Brandie Mahardika and husband Imade of Bryson City, and Justin Kirkland and wife Tonieeta of Whittier; great grandchildren, Bailey, and Korey Mahardika, and Shelby Taylor Kirkland; his brother, who he lived with for the last three years, John Kirkland and his wife Linda of Charlotte; three sisters, Christine Mooney and husband Robert of Stanley, NC, Drama Woody and husband Charles of Belmont, NC, and Wanda Ballew of Bryson City, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday at Crisp Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ray Fox will officiate with burial in Lauada Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Monday at the Funeral Home.
