Dorothy Burnett Marr December 8, 1930 – September 6, 2017 Obituary Dorothy Mae Burnett Marr died on September 6, 2017. She was born in the Needmore community near Bryson City and was the first of nine children born to Don and Jessie Burnett. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years Allen, son Daniel, and grandson John Allen Hancock, along with her parents and brothers, Arnold, David, and Melvin. Dorothy leaves behind five sons and daughters: William Allen Marr Jr., Ellen Hancock (husband Howard), Barbara Western (husband Fred), Sue Hahn (husband Ronnie), and Samuel Marr (wife Martha). She also leaves twelve grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and was very proud of each one. Surviving brothers and sisters of Dorothy include: Richard Burnett and wife Geneva, Revena Cook and husband James, Bonnie Lawrence, Rachel Purdue and husband Ralph, Roy Burnette and wife Janice, and sister-in-law, Carol Burnette. Many in-laws and nieces and nephews add to Dorothy's large extended family. Dorothy's greatest joys included living her faith, caring for family and friends, cooking for all occasions, tending her vegetable garden, pampering her flowers, sewing clothes, making quilts, and making craft projects. Time and again Dorothy transformed an empty house into a warm home for her husband and six children, as Allen worked on tunnel construction in six states and Canada. Each project ended with a move back to home on Marr Creek. After retiring in the early 1980's, Dorothy and Allen back to the Marr family homestead, they built a new house to their life long dreams with enough rooms to accommodate the entire extended family during family gatherings. Farming, gardening, family and the Brush Baptist Church became the center of their life. Visiting hours will be Saturday September 9, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Crisp Funeral Home at 669 US-19 South, Bryson City. The funeral service will be Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Brush Creek Baptist Church at 6640 Highway 28 South, Bryson City. Rev. Jim Cochran will officiate.
