Obituary of Paul Edward Douthit

Paul Edward Douthit, 90, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Saturday, January 28, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hattie Welch Douthit; brothers, Harold and Claude Douthit; sisters, Edna Douthit DeHart, Ruth Douthit Davis, Betty Douthit West; and his wife, Evelyn Tisdale Monteith Douthit. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Douthit; children, Ronald Edward Douthit, Madge; Jim Douthit, Juanita; Denise Douthit Parker, Keith; Mike Tisdale, Janet; brothers, Earl Douthit, Margie; Max Douthit, Linda; brother-in-law, Paul West; sister-in-law, Jean Douthit; close nephew, Gerald Davis, Shelby; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chris Douthit, John Douthit, Cabbott Cochran, Chase Sneed, Nic Tisdale, and Noah Harrell. Paul was a lifelong funeral director at Moody Funeral Home. He was an avid farmer and charter member of the Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, V.F.W. and a WWII and Korean War Veteran. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Bryson City. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Bryson City. Rev. John Tagliarini, Mike Crisp, and Rev. Jason Smith will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Crisp Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Century Scholars at Swain County Schools.
