Obituary of Grady Thomas Jones

Grady T. Jones, 97, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Bobbie Jones, his son, Frank Jones and wife Rita; his daughters, Murd Birchfield and husband Zeke, and Rachael Jones; his sister, Gladys Oliver; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In his early years he began work at the age of 16 for the WPA. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1942 to 1945. He worked as a carpenter and mason from 1945 to 1962 and worked and retired from the Great Smoky Mountain National Park from 1962 to 1982. He was an avid farmer, fisherman, hunter and ginseng digger well into his 90's. He was a member of Patterson Chapel Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Preacher Jim Frady will officiate, Burial will be in the Brendle Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Bryson City VFW post number 9281. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 pm Friday at the funeral home.
