February 5, 2010 BRYSON CITY……………………..DATELINE Rev. Jay Burnette, 93, of the Alarka Community, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday February 4, 2010 in a Swain County Health Care Facility. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Fred and Mary Queen Burnette. He was ordained a Freewill Baptist Minister in 1948 and Pastored in several Churches in the area. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served in WWII. He also was a carpenter and construction worker. He is survived by his wife of 71 years Ruth Greene Burnette 4 Children- Kenneth Burnette and his wife Patricia of Rockingham, NC Annette B. Waldroup of Bryson City Betty Shuler and husband L.D. of Bryson City Patsy Bowers and husband Eugene of Ft. Graitot, Mich. 13 Grandchildren , 28 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren 1 Sister- Ruth Barnes of Bryson City Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. The Revs. Eugene Moore and Gary Moore will officiate with burial in Brendle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Saturday at the Funeral Home.
